Avalanche Summary

You can trigger an avalanche in the storm snow on most slopes. Westerly winds will drift snow onto easterly-facing terrain at upper elevations, so these slopes are where the largest avalanches can be found. At lower elevations, avalanches can easily be triggered within the recent snow that can bury you if it pushes you into a gully or tree well. Safe travel in backcountry avalanche terrain requires cautious route finding. Avoid travel on or below slopes steeper than about 30 degrees.
