You can easily trigger small avalanches on northwest through north to east-facing slopes at upper elevations. Where you find a snowpack deeper than about 2 feet, you might trigger an avalanche large enough to bury you. Choose lower-angled wind-sheltered terrain to avoid triggering a dangerous avalanche. If you do travel on larger open slopes, pay close attention to the terrain beneath you. Even a small avalanche can drag you down a rocky slope and injure you.
