While avalanches are becoming harder to trigger, the consequences of triggering an avalanche remain worrisome. An avalanche will likely break 2 to 3 feet deep, possibly deeper on northerly or easterly-facing slopes where you find drifted snow. Southerly slopes and terrain at lower elevations offer safer options.
