Avalanche Summary

You can trigger a small avalanche on steep, wind-loaded slopes above treeline. New snow and southeasterly winds will combine to create thin, stiff slabs of snow on the leeward side of ridgelines. The most dangerous slopes face northerly directions. Pay attention to which way the wind is blowing and avoid traveling on steep slopes that have obvious wind-loading as you travel through the backcountry. You can find safer options in wind-sheltered at lower elevations.
