Avalanche Summary

A Special Avalanche Advisory is in effect for the San Juan Mountains. New snow and powerful winds over the last few days have created dangerous avalanche conditions. Human-triggered avalanches are likely. Stick to slopes less than about 30 degrees without steep slopes overhead.

You can easily trigger an avalanche at all elevations and on all aspects. Recent avalanches, shooting cracks, and collapses are all signs of unstable snow and signs to stick to lower angle terrain.
