Little Yoho.
Today was great day in the mountains with low danger and great snow quality - hard to believe it's still November! Check out the surface of the snowpack; it is presently forming what will undoubtedly become a significant weak layer once buried.
Another nice day forecast for Tuesday, although the ridge of high pressure starts to break down on Tuesday. Expect a clear morning, with clouds moving in during the afternoon and temps cooling over the next 24-hours. It looks like the big inversion that has dominated the past week will also start to break down. No snow in the forecast for Tuesday.
Surface hoar, suncrust and surface facets are all forming during this clear period. Surface hoar up to 20mm exists up to 1800m in the Emerald Lake area. Above 1800m, south facing terrain is baked into suncrust from the recent sun and warm temps aloft. All other aspects are soft facets. Snowpack depth is about 100cm, with no significant weak layers.
No new avalanches were observed or reported.
