Mount Shasta

The previously forecasted precipitation did not materialize. Avalanche danger remains low, with normal caution advised during any backcountry travel. High winds are predicted out of the west tomorrow, so prepare accordingly if you plan to venture above treeline.

Stop me if you've heard this one before. The forecasted precipitation yesterday failed to materialize, with the predicted 3-5 inches on the upper mountain manifesting as just a few snow flurries instead, primarily on the east side of the mountain. Strong winds are forecasted tonight, with gusts on the upper mountain reaching nearly to the triple-digits. With only an inch or two of snow predicted throughout the day tomorrow though, so these winds shouldn't manifest as any sort of avalanche hazard. Your main problem will be if you're trying to secure a tent! Rising temperatures throughout the rest of this week foretell a balmy (40-degree F) holiday weekend up at Bunny Flat. With snow levels rising to as high as 9,400 feet this weekend, make sure you bring a rain jacket if you plan to go play in the snow.

Snowmobiling on Mount Shasta: For motorized use via Bunny Flat, please park BELOW the restroom facility and launch from the designated ramp. Boundary markers (orange poles) are up along the Everitt Memorial Highway (EMH) and east Wilderness boundary in the Old Ski Bowl. Snowmobiles are prohibited above (north side) the EMH for 1.25 miles past Bunny Flat and anywhere in the Mount Shasta Wilderness. Know your boundaries. Citations will be issued for all violators.
