The avalanche danger is low at all elevations, and generally stable conditions exist. Moderate to strong northeast winds may create small wind slabs today near ridges, gullies, and favorable terrain features. Look for blowing snow and drifting while you're out, and adjust your plans if necessary.

Temperatures are down at all sensors this morning. As of 5am, Mammoth Mountain summit is reading a balmy 12 degrees Fahrenheit. Coupled with blustery northeast winds, it will feel quite cold near and above treeline today.

Winds may move small amounts of available snow around today. Any resulting drifts will be small, but could be just enough to push a rider off balance in steep or consequential terrain. This snow may also be blown onto slick crusts in places. Look for blowing snow and drifts on the south and west side of the compass, and adjust your plans if necessary.

Solar slopes are melting fast, especially below treeline and in the southern portion of the forecast area. Solars with enough snow to ski will likely not soften at all today.

Today's stiff northeast winds will only add to the already variable surface conditions. One can expect melt-freeze crusts, windboard, breakable, satrugi, and dwindling patches of softer snow.
