Snake River Range

The snowpack is mostly stable. It has been 2 weeks since the area last received new snow. In very steep terrain near rocks and cliff areas, small isolated pockets of slab could be triggered.  Use caution in no fall zones and in any terrain where being knocked off your feet or losing control of your sled for even a second could have severe consequences. 

The arrival of arctic air will bring decreasing temperatures and a chance for the first snowflakes in 2 weeks. Snow is more likely east of the Snake River Range and if snow does fall, accumulations will be minimal.  Paying attention to current snow surfaces will be helpful in understanding future avalanche problems and locations of those problems when snowfall does return to the area. These surfaces include wind crusts, sun and melt-freeze crusts, near surface facets, and in a growing amount of terrain at mid and  lower elevations, surface hoar growth has been profound.
