Regions

Banff Yoho Kootenay.

50-60 cm of snowpack above 2200 m in the Bow Summit area. Conditions have been surprisingly good for this early time of year, but expect many rocks and other buried hazards to be lurking. No skiing below 2000 m and not much ice to climb yet.

Weather Forecast

Freezing levels will remain between 2000 - 2500 m for the remainder of the week. Expect some precipitation on Thursday, but not much accumulation.

Snowpack Summary

Snow line starts at about 2000 m right now. At 2300 m there is 50-60 cm of well consolidated early season snow that carries well for travel. No significant weak layers in the snowpack, but expect isolated wind loading in alpine gullies where the soft snow has been blown into.

Avalanche Summary

No new avalanches observed - but we have only seen around the Bow Summit area so our observations are very limited.
