Avalanche Activity

Forecast Snow Stability: Fresh unstable windslab will continue to develop with greatest accumulations on North to East aspects above 1000 metres. Fragile cornices will develop above these aspects. Windward aspects will have good stability. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Gale force South-Westerly winds will ease in the afternoon. Showers will fall as snow above around 800 metres. The freezing level will slowly rise from 900 to 1100 metres. Observed Weather Influences: There were gale force South-Westerly winds and some heavy showers falling as snow above 850 metres. The freezing level was around 1050 metres. ObservedSnowStability: Areas of unstable windslab were developing mainly on North to East aspects above 1100 metres. Elsewhere the snowpack is generally stable. Cornices are prone to collapse. The avalanche hazard is Moderate.
