Avalanche problems

  • Wind slab

    • Above treeline

Tendency

The weather conditions will foster a gradual strengthening of the snowpack.

Avalanche Activity

Fresh wind slabs represent the main danger.

Wind slabs can be released by small loads and reach medium size. In particular on very steep slopes and adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas small and medium-sized natural dry avalanches are possible. In regions exposed to heavier precipitation and in the regions neighbouring those that are subject to danger level 3 (considerable) the avalanche prone locations are more prevalent and the danger is greater. As a consequence of warming during the day and the solar radiation, the likelihood of moist avalanches being released will increase a little in particular on rocky slopes.

Snowpack Structure

The fresh snow of last week as well as the wind slabs formed during the snowfall are poorly bonded with the old snowpack in some places.
