Increasing winds will blow 6-8" of available low-density snow into shallow slabs in the lee of ridgelines. Wind-loading will increase rapidly during the afternoon and will build firm and punchy slab layers that you can trigger near ridgelines at upper elevations. Shallow snow coverage may limit slab hazard in some areas, but wind-loaded pockets will exist in isolated areas near treeline. Remember that the consequences of even a shallow, small avalanche can be amplified by early season coverage (rocks, stumps, roots).
