Forecast Snow Stability: Poorly bonded windslab will accumulate during the day, only achieving depth by late afternoon. This will be isolated to steep locations such as coire rims, scarp slopes and gully tops of a North-West, though North-East to Easterly aspects above 850 metres. Outwith these locations a shallow covering of snow will overlie bare ground. Fragile cornices will develop throughout the day above the same aspects. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.
Forecast Weather Influences: Precipitation is expected from the morning after a predominately dry night. This will fall as snow above 550 metres, with the greatest volumes in the afternoon. The freezing level will be around 550 metres for the afternoon, before rising to 900 metres at the end of the forecast period. Winds will be mainly from the West-North-West overnight before backing to the South during daylight hours. The windspeed will gradually increase to moderate after a calm night. Observed Weather Influences: Organised showers resulted in rain falling at all elevations, before gradually turning to snow as the freezing level lowered. Winds were West-South-West veering to West-North-West, initially storm force but abating slightly during the day. However, storm force gusts remained a feature throughout the period. At midday the freezing level was around 850 metres. ObservedSnowStability: A cosmetic trace of snow was observed above 800 metres. Despite this there is no change in the snowpack, with isolated snow patches and snow fields at the highest elevations, such as scarp slopes and gully tops. Greatest amounts can be found on North through East to South-East aspects above 950 metres. The avalanche hazard is Low.
