Avalanche Activity

The new snow and wind slabs of the weekend represent the main danger.

The fresh snow of the weekend as well as the scattered wind slabs can be released in some cases in particular on steep shady slopes above the tree line. The avalanches can in some cases reach medium size. The avalanche prone locations for dry avalanches are to be found in particular in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain. The avalanche prone locations are barely recognisable because of the poor visibility.

Snowpack Structure

10 to 20 cm of snow, and up to 25 cm in some localities, has fallen since Saturday above approximately 1000 m. Over a wide area new snow and wind slabs are lying on soft layers. This applies in particular on shady slopes. The wind slabs are to be found especially in places that are protected from the wind.
