Avalanche danger is generally low. Main problem: fresh snowdrifts which can trigger as slab avalanches even by minimum additional loading in some places. Avalanche prone locations are found in particular in extreme and steep terrain in N/E/S aspects as well as in freshly wind-loaded gullies. Slab avalanches generally remain small-sized. Caution: danger of falling. In places with still enough snow the danger of wet avalanches increases due to solar radiation and daytime warming. Small loose snow, slab and glide snow avalanches release on steep sun-exposed slopes. This applies in particular to steep rocky terrain and steep grass-covered slopes.
Accompanied by strong westerly to northwesterly winds up to 10 cm of fresh snow have fallen since Tuesday. Small snowdrift accumulations were generated at high altitudes which are prone to triggering. Elsewhere the new snow is found well bonded atop an old snowpack which is thoroughly moist down to the ground. As a result of sunshine and daytime warming the snowpack surface will become thoroughly moist and correspondingly forfeits its firmness. At intermediate altitudes the snowpack depth is all in all below average.
Due to spring-like temperatures wet snow problems are expected as of Friday. Avalanche danger could then rise slightly.
