Less snow than expected fell yesterday in the Prealps and in the Dolomites. The weather report and anticipated change in the avalanche danger are uncertain. Above approximately 1500 m snow will fall in the next few hours over a wide area. Up to 20 cm of snow will fall above approximately 2000 m. The avalanche prone locations are to be found at the base of rock walls and adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls. The new snow can be released by a single winter sport participant in all aspects. Backcountry touring calls for meticulous route selection. As a consequence of the precipitation, the likelihood of gliding avalanches and wet snow slides being released will increase gradually in particular on steep grassy slopes between approximately 1400 and 1800 m.

Over a wide area new snow and wind slabs are lying on a hard crust. As a consequence of snowfall and the wind, fresh snow drift accumulations will form. The weather conditions will give rise to increasing moistening of the snowpack in particular at intermediate altitudes.
