Forecast Snow Stability: New snow and variable Southerly winds will form unstable windslab in sheltered gullies and on slopes with a North-West through North to Easterly aspect mainly above 850 metres, weakly bonded cornices will form above many of these areas. The older snowpack where exposed will remain firm and icy on higher slopes. The avalanche hazard will be Considerable.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: New snow will affect higher slopes overnight and through the day, heavier falls are expected overnight becoming lighter by dawn. Winds will be generally Southerly fresh to strong. The freezing level will be 500 metres overnight rising to 1300 metres by early morning and then lowering to 800 metres through the course of the day. Observed Weather Influences: Snow showers above 400 metres have been heavy at times. Winds have been fresh to strong generally from a South-West to Westerly direction. The freezing level was around 700 metres. ObservedSnowStability: New snow and strong South-West to West winds have formed areas of poorly bonded windslab in sheltered locations. Summit gullies, gully exits and corrie headwalls with a North to Easterly aspect above 850 metres are most affected. The older snowpack where exposed is firm and icy on higher slopes. The avalanche hazard is Moderate.
