Wind slab
- Above 1,800 m
The fresh snow and in particular the sometimes deep wind slabs represent the main danger.
The fresh snow and in particular the sometimes deep wind slabs represent the main danger.
The fresh snow and in particular the wind slabs can be released by a single winter sport participant in all aspects and above the tree line. This applies in particular in the regions exposed to heavier precipitation. Slab avalanches and dry slab avalanches are the main danger. Weak layers exist in the old snowpack at high altitude. Especially on steep north, northeast and northwest facing slopes the dry avalanches can be released in deep layers of the snowpack and reach large size in some cases. Some medium-sized natural avalanches are possible.
The sometimes large wind slabs of the last two days are poorly bonded with the old snowpack. The wind slabs are lying on unfavourable layers in all aspects. As a consequence of the moderate to strong wind, fresh snow drift accumulations will form in the course of the day. Weak layers exist in the old snowpack especially on north, northeast and northwest facing slopes.
