GC for 21/12 Heavy thaw, then new shallow windslab forming on N,NE,E,SE aspects above 900m. Soft cornices developing. Av Hazard Low.

Forecast Snow Stability: After heavy thaw conditions new windslab will start to develop and continue to form through the day in wind sheltered locations. New deposits will be mainly shallow on North through East to South-East aspects above 900 metres but often falling on bare ground. Accumulations gaining depth are not expected to be deep or extensive, and will form mainly in sheltered gullies at the tops of gullies and around coire rims. New fragile cornices will also start to reform. The avalanche hazard will be Low.

Forecast Weather Influences: Overnight and during the early hours of the morning the freezing level will rise to well above the summits with heavy rain and gale force West-South-Westerly winds. During the day the freezing level will slowly lower to around 600 metres by late afternoon. Winds will remain the same strength and direction, precipitation will ease falling as light snow showers above 500 metres. Observed Weather Influences: The freezing level rose above the summits with squally showers of rain accompanied by strong South-Westerly winds. ObservedSnowStability: Much of the recent snowfall that fell yesterday has thawed leaving to overall snow cover well depleted. The snowpack is currently moist at all levels but remains generally well bonded. The avalanche hazard is Low.
