Avalanche Forecast

If you head into the backcountry, thanks for sharing your observations on the Mountain Information Network (MIN).

The rain and mild temperatures from the past couples days have done their thing. Couloirs and depressions, where the snow accumulations were greater since the beginning of the season, have lost half of their snowpack. These areas now show a thick crust at the top, which is not always supporting the weight of a skier.

Areas exposed to the dominant winds are now back to the ground.

The snowpack is typical of early-season conditions. Expect thin snow cover with rocks, trees and stumps buried just below the surface.

The forecast shows very little action for the next few days, except for some flurries due to the Northwesterly winds and an ice-free St-Lawrence. We'll probably have to wait until Wednesday next week for the next significant snowfall.
