Low avalanche danger does not mean that danger does not exist. In the alpine, travelers face a chance of encountering pockets of wind slab on steep south, east, and north aspects. Firm surfaces will also be a likely hazard. If not thoroughly prepared, a fall could result in an uncontrollable slide for life. Pack the climbing essentials: ice axe, crampons, and a helmet.
