Avalanche Summary

The most dangerous slopes are wind-drifted terrain features where around six inches of new snow fell throughout the day Monday and drifted into thin but cohesive slabs. Even a small avalanche can step down into a weak layer of snow buried two to four feet below the snow surface and grow large enough to bury you. Safer travel options exist by sticking to wind-sheltered slopes at lower elevations and avoiding likely shallow points in the snowpack such as a rock outcrop or a convex rollover on otherwise planar slopes.
