Avalanche Summary

Avoid steep slopes where you find a cohesive slab of drifted snow. These slabs may sit on weaker, collapsible layers of snow. Shooting cracks and sounds of collapsing or whumpfing are sure signs that you can trigger an avalanche. Safer conditions can be found in sheltered areas where the recent storm snow is less cohesive.
