Avalanche Summary

The most likely places to trigger an avalanche is on steep slopes with rapidly wetting surface snow. A marginal overnight freeze, warm daytime temperatures, and clear skies will rapidly warm snow at all elevations. Wet avalanches often release below rocks or cliffs and gain mass as they move downhill. Avoid travelling on or under steep, sunny, snow-covered slopes during the heat of the day. Start and end your day early to avoid this problem.
