An upslope storm event will bring snow and easterly winds to the Sangre de Cristo Range. Anticipate avalanche danger to increase as snow accumulates later in the day. You could trigger an avalanche in wind-drifted snow. The most dangerous slopes are where you find more than about 8 inches of drifted snow.
Cracking in recently drifted snow is a sign of an unstable slope and an indication to move to lower-angle wind-sheltered terrain.
