Avalanche Activity

The new snow must be evaluated with care and prudence in all aspects above approximately 1000 m.

Over a wide area 30 cm of snow will fall on Tuesday above approximately 1500 m. The new snow can be released easily or naturally in all aspects. In particular in the regions exposed to heavier precipitation medium-sized dry avalanches are to be expected as the snowfall becomes more intense. The off-piste conditions are dangerous. Temporary safety measures may be necessary in some localities.

Snowpack Structure

The new snow will be deposited on surface hoar above the tree line. Snow profiles and stability tests have confirmed the unfavourable bonding of the snowpack. Weak layers deep in the old snowpack are difficult to recognise. Towards its base, the snowpack is faceted and weak. Avalanches can be released in deeper layers very easily.
