Moist and wet avalanches are possible during the day. Slab avalanches require caution, in the regions exposed to a lot of wind in particular in the afternoon.
As a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation moist and wet avalanches are possible as the day progresses, in particular medium-sized ones. As a consequence of a moderate to strong westerly wind, clearly visible wind slabs will form in the afternoon in particular adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas as well as at elevated altitudes. In particular on steep shady slopes avalanches can be released in the various wind slab layers and reach large size in isolated cases. This applies in particular at transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack, when entering gullies and bowls for example at high altitudes and in high Alpine regions. Wind slabs can in isolated cases be released, even by a single winter sport participant. Backcountry touring calls for careful route selection.
In the early morning the weather will be very mild. Sunshine and high temperatures will give rise in the late morning to significant moistening of the snowpack in particular at low and intermediate altitudes. Afternoon: As a consequence of sharply falling temperatures and the moderate to strong westerly wind, fresh snow drift accumulations will form during the next few days. In particular intermediate altitudes and steep sunny slopes: The new snow is lying on top of a quite favourable old snowpack. The snowpack is largely stable and its surface has a crust that is strong in many cases. High altitudes and the high Alpine regions: Wind slabs are lying on the smooth surface of an old snowpack. In particular in the vicinity of peaks snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind.
The weather will be cold. In some localities increase in avalanche danger as a consequence of the strong northwesterly wind. Along the border with France and at elevated altitudes the avalanche prone locations are more prevalent and the danger is greater.
