Forecast Snow Stability: There will be a period of instability overnight during which cornices will be prone to collapse. However, the thaw is unlikely to penetrate all the way through the snowpack in sheltered locations. There will be some consolidation when the temperature drops. Moderately bonded areas of windslab will remain on sheltered North to East aspects above 1000 metres. Below this level stability will be better. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Forecast Weather Influences: The freezing level will briefly rise above the summits overnight before dropping back down to about 800 metres where it will remain during the day. A few snow showers are expected during the day. Strong winds will be from the South-West. Observed Weather Influences: After a settled night and morning there was some light snow during the afternoon. The freezing level rose to about 1100 metres by late afternoon. The strong breeze from the West strengthened during the day. ObservedSnowStability: Significant deposits of soft poorly bonded windslab remains above about 900 metres on mainly North through East to South-East aspects. There was further re-distribution of the soft snowpack onto these aspects during the day. There are some large fragile cornices above these aspects. Evidence of recent avalanche activity was noted on an Easterly aspect at 1200 metres. The avalanche hazard is Considerable.
