Avalanche Activity

Increase in danger of moist and wet avalanches as a consequence of warming during the day.

In particular steep sunny slopes and base of rock walls: As a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation moist and wet avalanches are possible from the late morning, even large ones in isolated cases. In particular on steep grassy slopes gliding avalanches and moist snow slides are possible. Areas with glide cracks are to be avoided. The older wind slabs can be released in isolated cases at intermediate and high altitudes. These can in some places be released by people and reach medium size. Backcountry tours should be started very early and concluded timely.

Snowpack Structure

In particular in the vicinity of peaks snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind. The surface of the snowpack has frozen to form a strong crust and will soften quickly. In steep terrain there is a danger of falling on the icy crust. Sunshine and high temperatures will give rise in the late morning to rapid moistening of the snowpack in particular on sunny slopes.
