Avalanche Activity

The weather report and anticipated change in the avalanche danger are uncertain. As a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation the avalanche prone locations will become more prevalent from the late morning. The wind slabs can be released by a single winter sport participant in all aspects above the tree line.

In all aspects small and medium-sized dry slab avalanches are possible above the tree line. Avalanches are possible, even large ones in isolated cases. The avalanche prone locations are to be found at the base of rock walls and behind abrupt changes in the terrain and adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls. As a consequence of warming medium-sized and, in isolated cases, large natural moist avalanches are possible below approximately 1800 m. Experience in the assessment of avalanche danger is advisable.

Snowpack Structure

The wind slabs remain prone to triggering. The new snow of the last few days is bonding only slowly with the old snowpack. The weather conditions will give rise to moistening of the snowpack especially at low and intermediate altitudes.
