CM for 16/03/23 Poorer stability NW through N to SE aspects above 950m. Avalanche hazard - Moderate.

Forecast Snow Stability: Period of poorer stability overnight as snow turns to rain and the freezing level rises above summits. Most affected areas will be steep North-West through North to North-East aspects above 950 metres. Some localised surface instability on steepest East to South-East aspects above the same altitude. Small but wet and weak cornices. General improvement in stability in all locations much later in the day. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Overnight snow showers turning to rain at all levels from dawn. Strong South-East winds. Initially cold but freezing level rising quickly to 2000 metres before dawn. Observed Weather Influences: Dry throughout at the time of reporting. Cold. Light to moderate Westerly, later South-West winds. ObservedSnowStability: Limited recent drifting. Good general stability at the time of reporting. Pockets of less well-bonded windslab persist on steep East through South to South West aspects above 1000 metres. The avalanche hazard is Moderate.
