The wind slabs represent the main danger.
On Wednesday the wind was moderate to strong in particular along the border with Switzerland and along the border with France. As a consequence of wind from northwesterly directions, wind slabs formed. They are to be found in particular adjacent to ridgelines. The fresh wind slabs can be released by a single winter sport participant in some cases above approximately 2400 m, in particular on very steep slopes. These places are barely recognisable because of the poor visibility.
5 to 15 cm of snow will fall in the evening above approximately 1300 m. The northwesterly wind has transported some snow. The snowpack is weak in some cases, in particular on shady slopes. As a consequence of solar radiation a crust formed on the surface, in particular on sunny slopes.
