Avalanche Activity

Wind slabs require caution, especially along the border with France.

The wind slabs can be released, especially by large additional loads, at elevated altitudes. The avalanche prone locations are rather rare. These avalanche prone locations are to be found at transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack above approximately 2400 m. In some places wind slabs are lying on an icy crust. Restraint should be exercised because avalanches can sweep people along and give rise to falls.

Snowpack Structure

Below approximately 2400 m from a snow sport perspective, in most cases insufficient snow is lying. At higher altitudes snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind.
