Less snow than expected has fallen since Saturday. The strong wind has transported the new snow. Adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas as well as at high altitudes and in high Alpine regions wind slabs formed. The fresh snow and the wind slabs can be released by a single winter sport participant. In the regions exposed to heavier precipitation avalanches are possible as the day progresses, in particular medium-sized ones. As the moisture increases moist and wet avalanches are to be expected. This applies in particular at low and intermediate altitudes, especially on very steep slopes, and at the base of rock walls. Ski touring and other off-piste activities, including snowshoe hiking, call for caution.
Over a wide area 10 to 30 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, has fallen above approximately 2100 m. The southerly wind has transported the new snow. In some cases the wind slabs have bonded poorly with each other and the old snowpack. The old snowpack is well consolidated and its surface consists of loosely bonded snow lying on a strong melt-freeze crust. The high temperatures gave rise to moistening of the snowpack in particular at low and intermediate altitudes. In particular at intermediate and high altitudes there is still a very large amount of snow. Below approximately 2000 m hardly any snow is lying.
As the day progresses as a consequence of warming there will be an increase in the danger of moist and wet avalanches. In some regions increase in danger of dry avalanches as a consequence of the new snow.
