Avalanche Activity

New snow and wind slabs require caution.

As a consequence of new snow and a strong southwesterly wind, wind slabs will form from early morning in particular adjacent to ridgelines as well as at elevated altitudes. The wind slabs can be released even by a single winter sport participant. Small and medium-sized natural avalanches are possible.

Snowpack Structure

Over a wide area new snow and wind slabs are lying on a hard crust. Faceted weak layers exist in the old snowpack. This applies in particular on shady slopes above approximately 2400 m.

Tendency

Above approximately 2000 m snow will fall on Friday over a wide area. Gradual increase in avalanche danger as a consequence of new snow and wind.
