Highlights

The General Avalanche Hazard is CONSIDERABLE. Strong westerly winds and a few inches of new snow in the past 24 hours have added to slabs created by 10 inches of snow and wind from Saturday night. Slabs in excess of three feet in depth could be easily triggered on steep, lee slopes. Any surface slides have the potential to pull out deeper, old snow.

Avalanche Discussion

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )Strong westerly winds are forecasted to continue with 3 to 5 inches of new snow in the mountains of Western Wyoming by early Monday. Cloud cover will become broken during the day with drier conditions. Overnight mountain temperatures will drop to below zero and daytime highs Monday will be in the single digits.High winds will continue to enlarge surface slabs in lee areas. Areas under ridge crests and steep areas that can act as fetches for slopes below are likely to help develop easily triggered slides to four feet or greater in depth. In the Togwotee Pass/Continental Divide area weak, faceted snow still persists at the base of the shallow snowpack. Stronger triggers like snowmobile groups could release these deep, hard slabs. The General Avalanche Hazard is forecasted to be CONSIDERABLE Monday across the region.
