New snow from Sunday means there are more places where you could trigger a small avalanche in fresh pockets of wind-drifted snow above treeline. You’re most likely to find this setup on high-elevation north-facing slopes, particularly right below ridgelines and along the edges of gullies.
These avalanches are small, isolated, and easy to avoid, but could knock you off your feet and take you for a nasty ride over our shallow and rocky snowpack. Look for and avoid deeper wind-drifted pockets of snow, especially if the snow surface cracks under your feet.
