You can trigger an avalanche from a distance and below. Weak layers and crusts are buried beneath recent storm snow. More snow will increase the size and connection of these avalanches. The most dangerous areas will be where winds have drifted snow over these weak layers. Cracking and collapsing are signs that you have found unstable snow. You can find safer riding on slopes less than about 35 degrees.
