You can trigger an avalanche where you find a cohesive slab of snow resting on older, weak snow. You are most likely to find this dangerous combination on northwest through north to east-facing slopes where wind drifted snow into these dangerous slabs.
Expect the avalanche danger to increase throughout the weekend and even throughout the day Friday if about a foot or more of snow falls before sunset.
