Avalanche Summary

You can trigger avalanches in recently drifted snow; easterly-facing slopes are the most dangerous. These will likely break on weak snow in the upper snowpack but could step down into layers close to the ground. Work around isolated pockets of firm, smooth snow, especially in cross-loaded gullies or just below ridgelines. Where you find an utterly cohesionless snowpack on shaded slopes, you could trigger a loose avalanche that could be problematic above a cliff or creekbed.
