You can trigger an avalanche on wind-drifted slopes facing north, northeast, and east near and above treeline. The most dangerous areas are near treeline as recent winds generally scoured or hardened most slopes above treeline. Some avalanches might break on weak snow near the ground and grow large enough to bury you. Wind-sheltered slopes offer safer travel options.
