Snowpack

The snowpack has become soaked up to over 3000 m on south- and west-facing slopes, up to around 2600 m on east-facing slopes and up to approximately 2200 m on north-facing slopes. The snowpack is likely to freeze to the point at which it is capable of bearing loads above approximately 2400 m during the night, which will be mostly clear but mild. Dry snow can now only be found on steep north-facing slopes above approximately 2600 m. Hardly any fractures deeper in the snowpack are to be expected.

Gliding avalanches, including large ones, are still possible. Although these will become more frequent as the day progresses, some may also be released during the night or in the early morning.

After a mostly clear night with high levels of outgoing longwave radiation, it will be sunny and mild again during the day. The zero-degree level will be around 3800 m. Winds will become increasingly moderate at high altitudes, blowing from the west.

The danger of dry avalanches will continue to decrease. After the clear night, rather favourable conditions are to be expected in the early morning. As the day progresses, the danger of wet avalanches will increase appreciably. Gliding avalanches are expected, including large ones. Although these will become more frequent as the day progresses, some may also be released during the night or in the early morning. Ski tours and hut ascents should be started and finished early.

Monday

Sunday night into Monday will be mostly cloudy. There will be some showers in the north during the day. The snowfall level will drop from 2800 to 1800 m as the day progresses. There will be a moderate to strong westerly wind. In the south, it will be quite sunny at first, becoming increasingly cloudy in the afternoon.

The danger of dry avalanches may increase slightly in the north. Due to the lack of outgoing radiation, there will already be an increased danger of wet avalanches in the early morning.
