Regions

Kananaskis.

Warm temps are helping the snow settle and form a reasonably dense top layer. Travel is good, but finding an area that isn't tracked or old debris is challenging. Happy hunting!

Weather Forecast

Temps will fall to -16 by early Thursday morning. We might get a few cm's of snow as well, but not enough to freshen up the conditions. Winds will stay calm at valley bottom and gusty in the alpine. 45km/hr gusts are expected at peak height.

Avalanche Summary

Nothing new today.

Snowpack Summary

Warm temps are helping the snowpack settle even more. This is keeping travel reasonable with 10-20cm ski penetration. The surface hoar from the last 5 days has been blown over or melted in many areas. There are certainly pockets lingering, but for now we aren't expecting a widespread problem. As usual, the deeper facet/new snow interface is our main concern. This interface is down about 1m at treeline. Unreactive windslabs were also noted today in wind prone areas.

Terrain and Travel

  • Avoid steep convexities or areas with a thin, rocky, or variable snowpack.
