Regions

Little Yoho.

Expect small wind-slabs in the high alpine on lee features. Otherwise conditions are quite good.

Also, we expect a "Cold and Snowy scenario" until the end of the week.

Weather Forecast

Cold temperatures will remain until the end of the week,. The North East flow will also stay in place until Friday. No significant wind values are expected, generally light to moderate. Unsettled weather could bring small amounts of precip late on Thursday, but very little accumulations.

Snowpack Summary

10-30 cm of soft, dry snow sits on a firm crust on N aspects. On solar aspects expect a variety of breakable crust and firm crusts that carry the weight of a skier, boarder or walker. Within the snowpack, a series of crusts exist at all elevations. Ski crampons are advisable.

Avalanche Summary

A Visitor Safety team on the Wapta Icefields the last 3 days reported seeing numerous large cornice failures. None of the reported cornice failures released any slabs after impact. Otherwise, no new avalanches were observed or reported.

Confidence

The weather pattern is stable
