Avalanche Forecast

No new avalanches have been reported. With limited sunshine forecast on Saturday, we expect wet avalanche activity to be unlikely.

If you have any recent photos or observations, please submit them to the Mountain Information Network, observations are limited in the spring.

A widespread surface crust is likely found in the morning, with mild temperatures expected over the day and limited sunshine the crust may begin to break down but wet avalanches are considered unlikely. Wind-affected dry snow may exist only on high north-facing alpine slopes.

Below treeline terrain has low snow cover. Travel conditions are challenging with exposed rocks, stumps, and open creeks.

Friday Night

Clear skies. 30 km/h southeast ridgetop wind. Freezing level remains above 1500 m.

Saturday

A clear start with increasing cloud and up to 10 mm of afternoon rain/wet snow. 50-60 km/h southwest ridgetop wind. Treeline temperature +1 °C. Freezing level 1600 m.

Sunday

Snow continues overnight with 10-20 cm possible by Sunday morning.

Cloudy with another 5 cm of snow possible over the day. Freezing level around 800 m, 30 km/h westerly winds. Treeline temperatures around -4 °C.

Monday

Mostly clear skies with no snowfall expected. 10-20 km/h northerly winds. Freezing levels around 1000 m.

• When a thick, melt-freeze surface crust is present, avalanche activity is unlikely.
• A crust on the surface will help bind the snow together, but may make for tough travel conditions.
• Make observations and assess conditions continually as you travel.
• Pay attention to cornices and give them a wide berth when traveling on or below ridges.
