New snow and wind over the long weekend will form fresh windslabs in the alpine - be mindful of wind loaded features and slopes.

Remember, it's still early season conditions. Don’t be fooled by the fresh powder—rocks, stumps, and trees lurk just beneath the surface.

Snowpack Summary

The early season snowpack is variable, ranging from areas that are snow free, to gullies and lee features that are snow loaded. There is 15-20cm of snow at treeline, 50-60cms in the alpine and up to 100cm where windloaded. Expect reactive wind slabs where deeper pockets exist. A 5-15 cm thick crust sits at the base of the snowpack with some faceting found above and below. Investigate this layer before you venture into new terrain.

Weather Summary

A pulse of new snow is expected over the Remembrance Day Long weekend along with SW winds. Be sure to check the weather forecast before heading out.
