Avalanche Summary

No recent avalanches have been reported. However, observations are extremely limited in this area.

If you're heading out into the backcountry, please consider sharing your observations on the MIN.

Snowpack Summary

Previous heavy rain and high freezing levels have formed a widespread crust that likely extends high into alpine. The snow surface is likely wet at lower elevations, especially during the warmest parts of the day.

Only the highest alpine elevations may have seen snow fall instead of rain, and may hold lingering wind slabs on leeward and cross-loaded slopes. If found, these slabs should be assessed carefully before committing to steep terrain.

Treeline areas currently hold an estimated 20 to 50 cm of snow, which diminishes rapidly below 1500 m.

Terrain and Travel Advice

  • Avalanche activity is unlikely when a thick melt-freeze crust is present on the snow surface.
  • Small avalanches can have serious consequences in extreme terrain. Carefully evaluate your line for slabs before you commit to it.
  • A hard crust on the snow surface will help strengthen the snowpack, but may cause tough travel conditions.
