Avalanche Problems

Loose Dry

Expect fast sluffing in steep terrain, failing on large surface hoar crystals. Up to 20cm of loose surface snow can move once this layer fails.

Aspects: All aspects.

Elevations: Alpine, Treeline.

Likelihood: Likely

Expected Size: 1 - 2

Deep Persistent Slabs

Areas of thin snow cover exist with weak crystals over an early season crust. Glide cracks with potential to procduce large slab avalanches are showing up throughout the area at all elevations. Glide crack releases are hard to predict

Aspects: All aspects.

Elevations: All elevations.

Likelihood: Unlikely

Expected Size: 2 - 4

Wind Slabs

Isolated wind slabs exist in the immediate leeward areas on ridge crests but are stubborn to trigger.

Aspects: North, North East, East, South East, South.

Elevations: Alpine.

Likelihood: Unlikely - Possible

Expected Size: 1 - 2
