Highlights

A few inches of fresh snow and increasing northerly wind is today's primary watch-out. Pay attention to wind blown snow in exposed areas like ridges, gully features and open areas. Use small test slopes to evaluate what the bigger picture may reveal.

    In the past 24 hours, the Old Ski Bowl weather station recorded 0.09 inches of water, producing 1–2 inches of new snow. Lingering showers will taper off by this afternoon. Northerly winds will increase today, with forecasted speeds of 25-35 mph over higher terrain.  

    Fresh snow and wind is a red flag—watch for blowing snow and where it accumulates. No special training is needed to observe these conditions. While avalanches are unlikely to be large enough to bury a person, staying vigilant and assessing wind-loaded areas is essential.

Snow surfaces are the classic Shasta smorgasbord, with a cheeky refresh overnight. Expect similar conditions today, with a few new inches of snow on top. Northerly winds will increase, but clearing and warming conditions are expected through the weekend.

For those thinking, "winter isn’t over yet," you’re right—active weather returns next week. Until then, enjoy the sunshine and keep it pro out there.
